As a result of his excellent performances at the Regional Country Meet in Narooma, Thomas Hamers-Smith has been selected as the ACT's only representative for the NSW Country Regional Camp, to be held on the NSW North Coast in April 2002. Thomas will be accompanied by our very own Coach Terry who has been selected by NSW Swimming as a member of the coaching team. Great recognition for coach and swimmer - congratulations Thomas and Terry!!. |

SHE DID IT!! Not only did Katrina Lewis have the thrill of winning the Elite Athletes with a Disability (EAD) 50m freestyle LIVE on national television, but she has also won a place on the Australian Swim Team for the Commonwealth Games, to be held in Manchester, England, later this year. See the Canberra Times article and photograph that appeared on 31 March and the Chronicle article of 2 April. What an incredible achievement for a swimmer who has been in the water only a little more than a year. Congratulations Katrina - Brindabella salutes you!! Check the full results for both Brindabella swimmers who competed at this Meet. |

Club Captain Rachael Miles and Katrina Lewis will take on the might of Australian Swimming when they travel to Brisbane for the Australian Open (and Commonwealth Games Trials) in March. Rachael will be swimming the 50m and 200m breast events, whilst Katrina has qualified in every event in her class. What an awesome achievement!. |

What a weekend at ACT Age - our junior girls continued their dominance of the local swim scene, with Sri Barber (9 years), Melanie Quiggin (11 years) and Lainee Sutton (12 years) taking out ACT Age Champions' trophies. |
 |
Katrina Lewis is awarded the Dawn Fraser Award for junior female disability athletes, which includes a cash award donated by Dawn herself. Congratulations Katrina!!. |

Great fun had by all (well, the parents anyway - they weren't the ones swimming non-stop for an hour!) at the 2001 Swimathon on 13 October. HUGE congratulations to all the swimmers who participated Special congratulations go to Jono Rousseau who, for the second year running, swum the most laps, completing 190 in 1 hour - that's 4.75 kilometres!! A warm welcome back too, to Sonja Falez, who, in her first outing since shoulder surgery, swam 90 laps. Onya Sonja!!
Winners of the prizes in each squad were:
- Development Squad - Julian Olsen, 92 laps
- Junior Squad - Stephanie Cossetto, 152 laps
- Intermediate Squad - Thomas Hamers-Smith and Colby Rook, 166 laps
- Advanced Squad and overall top three - Krysten Mansell 184, Rachael Miles 186 and Jono 190.
Jono very graciously donated the CD voucher he won to the swimmer who raises the most money overall. |
